Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hard surfaces

A revitalized the Russian player claimed his first title for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has endured a difficult year, winning just one win at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the American major.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in particular - led to him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately splitting with long-term mentor his previous coach.

Currently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently advanced in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first championship following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court from March of 2023.

The win also indicates he has secured twenty-one titles at 21 distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," said world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in tribute of my child her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, featuring in Halle in the past months.

The player's defensive play style and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had caused commentators to wonder if his skill to play at the highest level was over.

However the player has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform assertively, backed up by an enhanced service.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging opponent, winning four of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The pair traded service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to create a third set.

The opponent rescued 4 early-game break points in a tight third set before Medvedev broke to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned victory with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to control a return after over two and a half hours.
